Camp Glenorchy has been designed and is being built using the sustainable design philosophies and operating practices outlined in the Living Building Challenge™. It will provide visitors with a unique opportunity to experience first-hand how careful design, materials and practices allow Camp Glenorchy to generate as much power as it puts back into the grid each year. As well, our goal is to use 50% less water than similar facilities, conserving resources wherever possible. Our hope is to educate and delight our guests, inspiring visitors to make sustainable choices in their own homes and communities.
Camp Glenorchy will be built as the first of two phases of The Headwaters master plan and will include:
The design of the bunk cabins at Camp Glenorchy has been inspired by traditional rural structures, and each cabin combines beautiful reclaimed wood, recycled materials and warm, welcoming interiors that invite guests to settle in, relax, ......

The top-level design goals for Camp Glenorchy are focused on energy and water conservation through use of sustainable architecture, materials, siting and operating practices. Solar powered electrical generation, state-of-the-art prism lighting systems, low-energy lighting and heating systems, and hot water collectors will be hallmarks of how Camp Glenorchy will achieve Net Zero energy consumption each year. Rainwater, grey water and black water collection systems combined with odor-free composting toilets and low-flow fixtures will highlight a range of ways to conserve water.
Throughout the property, visitors will find a series of low-key interpretive opportunities to help both children and adults learn through signage and interactive displays about the conservation and energy generating systems in use on the site. The goal is to invite visitors to discover and explore the Marketplace and Campground’s “buildings that teach:” visitors will be able to actually see the energy and conservation systems in action, and gain an understanding about how they work.
